performance patch

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night appears to be a good game. However, one thing that cannot be denied is the shoddy performance of the Switch version. Input lag, low frame rate, and subpar textures are but a few of the title’s problems on Nintendo’s console. Thankfully, 505 Games and ArtPlay are intent on fixing the game to perform as well as it does on other systems. What was going to be a series of small updates, though, has now morphed into one performance patch.

A longer wait to make a good game great

Game director Koji Igarashi shared a development update on Bloodstained‘s website, stating:

Initially we had planned to release a number of small updates to give incremental improvements. After looking at what needs to be accomplished, our goal is to bundle performance improvements into (likely) one patch. Doing so eases the submission process and will result in an overall faster completion. Since this is still in development, we don’t have a firm ETA. We will update everyone when we have a more concrete release window.

Since a tiny upgrade was expected in July and did not appear, many gamers figured something was up.

Ritual of the Night did update today but the patch is related to bug fixes and improvements to the localization. In addition, all DLC plans are still in the discussion phase, as the developers are prioritizing optimizing the game before working on cosmetics. What a refreshing concept! These guys can teach WB Games a thing or two.

I think this delay is better than having incremental changes. Granted, it sucks to not have an ETA, and the Switch port should not have been released in its current state. On the other hand, I would rather wait for everything to be rectified and download one big patch instead of many smaller ones. After all, now I have more time to finish my second playthrough of Curse of the Moon.

Enthusiasts, what do you think about the performance patch delay? Would you rather have it all in one go or small updates over time? Let us know your preference down below.
