Persona 25th anniversary

Ah Persona, the weirdest JRPG franchise that somehow made it over here in its entirety. The first game in the series — Megami Ibunroku Persona or Revelations: Persona if you’re American — debuted in Japan on September 20, 1996. To celebrate the series’s 25th anniversary, Atlus set up a website with all kinds of goodies to get hyped by. Let’s have a look!

Persona 25th anniversary

There are seven TV screens on the main page signifying announcements. While most are blank, the first one is indicating that we’ll be getting something this coming September, and after that the Persona goodness will continue onward into fall of next year. While it’s unlikely that these will all be brand new games, it’s possible that Code Name: X will be on this list somewhere. There’s also evidence that the 25th anniversary will be bringing at least one entirely new numbered Persona game. For that we’ll take a peek at the Goods page.

As you can see there are acrylic standups and photo cards featuring the¬†Persona games and protagonists, but there are some items here that they’re not ready to show off just yet. Considering how many spinoffs the series has (note how the Persona 5 standup includes the vanilla and Royal versions, but not Strikers), there’s a strong possibility that we’ll be hearing more about potentially¬†two new games as we get closer to the 25th anniversary. There’s also some really cool merch here that I’m incredibly tempted to preorder. There are some sweet T-shirts and a coffee mug that would even impress Sojiro Sakura.

Still, that only accounts for the two things that Atlus is most likely to be announcing. There are still five more complete unknowns. Could we be seeing ports, remasters, or even remakes of the series on modern consoles? New upgraded versions? Persona 5 finally coming to the Switch? Let us know your theories in the comments!
