The upcoming Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers is pulling its weight as more than just an ordinary spinoff. Recently, the overall game structure was elaborated on, and now we have a bit of new info on new character Sophia too. Her character trailer has just been released, showing a bit more of her personality, style, and combat.
The newest Phantom Thief indulges in yo-yo combat with wide-range blaster finishing moves. Her strange hooded costume is equal parts cute and eerie with its big glowing eyes. Sophia looks like she may be a long-range character, a contrast to the mixed-ranged Joker. As previously reported, she is a healer who has a “Persona-like” entity called Pithos. According to one translation, the trailer’s stinger allegedly reveals that Sophia is in fact an AI, which would explain why we only see her in the metaverse and in phone conversations if accurate.
Each bit of new gameplay tickles the senses a bit more. Combining the overwhelming style of Persona 5 with the quick flowing Musou-style combat is a real winner in my book. I’ll be eagerly looking forward to future character trailers. I can’t wait to see the in-your-face Ryuji gameplay or the heavy-weapons Haru. Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers releases Feb. 20, 2020 in Japan.
