Persona Q2 trailer

Atlus released a new trailer and two cutscenes for Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth, the Nintendo 3DS sequel to 2014’s Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth. The trailer showcases Persona 5‘s lovable cat, Morgana, while the story cutscenes show off the whole gang.

Persona Q2, the chibi-influenced dungeon-crawler announced last year, will mash up characters from different games in the main franchise. Series fans will likely feel a jolt during the trailer as they watch Morgana chat with Persona 4‘s Teddy. Seeing the different characters mix (and clash) is a massive appeal of the Q series. Morgana and Teddy both fulfill support roles in their respective games and share similar personalities, but it’s easy to see how those characters might not get along.

Atlus also released two story cutscenes from the game via Twitter. In the first cutscene, the Persona 5 gang wakes up from exploring the underground labyrinth of Mementos to find themselves in a strange town. In the second, the crew grapples with being locked in a mysterious cinema with no exit. You can watch them both below.

The chibi art style is sure to divide some fans but for a cutesy crossover romp, it feels appropriate. There’s just something hilarious and adorable about how serious the characters act and how silly they look. It’s reminiscent of Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts series that throws together characters from Final Fantasy and Disney classics like Mickey Mouse, The Little Mermaid, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Here’s to hoping for at least one scene where series sidekicks Persona 5‘s Ryuji, Persona 4‘s Yusuke, and Persona 3‘s Junpei all have the chance to bro out.

Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth will be released in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS on November 29. There is no release date yet for Western markets.
