Niantic CEO John Hanke has appeared in a new video with Pikmin creator Shigeru Miyamoto to formally announce the global launch rollout of Pikmin Bloom on Android and iOS mobile devices. Pikmin Bloom is the official name for the Pikmin AR mobile game that Pokémon GO developer Niantic announced earlier this year, and today is the 20th anniversary of the franchise in Japan, which makes for impeccable timing.
A Niantic website blog post reveals more about this new title, answering essential questions like what Pikmin even are and what you can do with them in the game. For starters, Pikmin are tiny, cute plant people, and in Pikmin Bloom, you can “walk to grow more Pikmin,” “walk to make flowers bloom,” and “walk to log your memories.” Basically, the game is all about providing creative and fun ways to encourage people to get outside and walk.
At present, “Pikmin Bloom, which is free to play, is available now on the App Store and Google Play in Australia and Singapore, and is coming to other countries and regions shortly.” So you probably can’t access the game on your phone right this instant, but check back early and often over the next couple days.
If you can’t be bothered to watch the announcement video with the trailer wedged in the middle, then here is just the launch trailer below:
