A lot of people were excited to see the sudden release last night of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s first DLC fighter, Piranha Plant. Unfortunately, you might wanna hold off on taking the character for a spin just yet, if reports of a major save-corrupting bug are true.
Last night, a forum post on ResetEra divulged the news that people were experiencing their Super Smash Bros. Ultimate save files being corrupted and unusable after running through the game’s All-Star Smash mode as Piranha Plant. While there hasn’t been confirmation from Nintendo that such a bug exists, it’s better to be safe than sorry and avoid playing the game mode as the new DLC fighter for now.
Back during the days of Super Smash Bros. Wii U, a similar glitch cropped up during the release of DLC fighter Mewtwo. Playing 10-Man Smash as the fighter would wipe your online save progress and also prevent you from playing online at all. Nintendo did end up fixing this bug, so hopefully they’ll dust off the current Piranha Plant issues sooner than later.
