Bayonetta 3 PlatinumGames reveal gameplay Nintendo Switch Hideki Kamiya Atsushi Inaba up to Nintendo not our decision

Nintendo and PlatinumGames announced Bayonetta 3 during The Game Awards 2017, and nearly four years later, we have nothing to show for it except a long string of news stories from Nintendo and Platinum claiming that game development is proceeding well. Absolutely no gameplay has been shown to date. However, according to series creator Hideki Kamiya talking to VGC, the decision to reveal Bayonetta 3 and its gameplay on Nintendo Switch is not up to him or PlatinumGames — it’s up to Nintendo.

“If you remember last time (we discussed the game), I said that even though everyone was asking about Bayonetta 3, maybe you should tell everyone to forget about it for a while,” said Kamiya to VGC. “I kind of need to keep to that stance for now because ultimately, it’s not our decision what to say and when to say it.” However, PlatinumGames head Atsushi Inaba added the usual assurance that “Everything’s OK” with the game’s development.

Kamiya did sympathize with fans that want to see a formal Bayonetta 3 reveal with gameplay and the whole shebang on Nintendo Switch though, as he said: “As much as everyone is clamoring to see it, we are really, really waiting to release it too. Everyone who is working on the project is of course very proud of what we’re doing and wants everyone to see what we’re doing. As much as fans are waiting for it, we are waiting for the day when we can show it. We want everyone to cheer us on as we run to the final stretch. We want to show it too!”

So, consider this your hundredth update that Bayonetta 3 exists and is doing well with its development, but now with the more pronounced understanding that Nintendo is responsible for when we’ll finally see a big reveal of PlatinumGames’ next major title (Project GG and Sol Cresta aside).
