Playtonic Friends publishing label publisher Playtonic Games Yooka-Layee indie games

For Yooka-Laylee developer Playtonic Games‘ sixth birthday today, the company has announced the formation of its own publishing label, Playtonic Friends. The decision to start a publishing label was inspired by “the amount of hidden gems” that exist in indie game development and the desire to help those games find an audience. Playtonic Friends has not formally announced any specific developers or games as partners to help with publishing yet, but that news will come as the year progresses. Likewise, the team encourages you to reach out to them if you have a killer indie game you’re looking to get published. Playtonic is interested in publishing an eclectic variety of titles.

However, if you couldn’t care less about Playtonic Friends and just want more Yooka-Laylee games, there won’t be an issue. Playtonic Games and its key developers are still working on new games as usual, and “There are many more adventures on the way for Yooka-Laylee and friends.” Although, both in their FAQs and the above video, the developers playfully jump around the question of what exactly their current game project(s) is.

All we can say for sure is that it’s Playtonic’s birthday, it’s making games, and it’s also publishing games now.

Update: The first developers partnering with the publisher are Awe Interactive, Fabraz, and okidokico.
