The Pokémon Company and Universal Music Group have announced that Pokémon 25: The Red EP is available now as part of the continuing music festivities for the 25th anniversary of Pokémon. This appears to be a teaser for the larger, full album that will release in fall 2021 with Capitol Records. But for now, Pokémon 25: The Red EP contains three tracks: “Take It Home” by Mabel, “Wonderful” by Cyn, and “Got ‘Em” by Vince Staples.
We covered the release of “Take It Home” by Mabel last month, but now there are “visualizer” videos for “Wonderful” and “Got ‘Em” as well. I’d never heard of these people before, (I haven’t heard of anyone anymore.) but “Wonderful” is a pretty, breezy song, like something you could hear at the grocery store.
Cyn provided a statement about contributing the song to Pokémon 25: The Red EP: “I am so excited to release one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written, ‘Wonderful,’ in celebration of 25 years of Pokémon! This song is special to me because I feel it comments on growing pains while also emphasizing a destination of grace and a beautiful journey to it— eggs hatch when they want to or in other words, when they are ready. When I wrote this song, my newborn baby son was in the room— I can hear the influence of becoming a new mother in the music, it will always ring special for me.”
Meanwhile, “Got ‘Em” allegedly draws inspiration from Mew and Raichu… somehow. Sure, whatever.
Later this month, following up on Pokémon 25: The Red EP, there will be The Blue EP, featuring remixes of these three songs by Grammy-nominated artist ZHU.
