This weekend doesn’t just mark the release of the latest Pokémon video game. The anticipated launch of Pokémon Sword and Shield is also accompanied by the premiere of a brand new Pokémon anime series. It’s meant to follow up on the successful run of the Pokémon Sun and Moon anime, as well as tie into the launch of Pokémon Sword and Shield. We’ve gotten to see a few tidbits and teasers concerning the upcoming animated series, and now a new trailer is here to show off even more of the upcoming Pokémon anime.
Simply titled Pokémon: The Series, the new Pokémon anime is meant to bring fans both new and old together with a somewhat updated status quo and a new exploration into the history of some of the show’s most iconic characters. In particular, we’ll be getting a never-before-seen look into the origins and past of protagonist Ash Ketchum’s trusty yellow sidekick, Pikachu. The premiere episode of the new Pokémon anime will explore the origin story of Pikachu, with this new trailer showing off some snippets of that story. We see an adorable little Pichu wandering around the Kanto region alone, looking around sadly to try and find any other Pokémon like him.
We also get a peek at the new character who will be a central focus of the series, Gou. He’s featured heavily alongside series regular Ash Ketchum in the promotional material for this series, hinting at the fact that he’ll have some major importance in the show as a potential dual-protagonist alongside Ash.
Pokémon: The Series will be officially making its debut Nov. 17 in Japan, although an overseas premiere date hasn’t yet been set.
