Which Pokémon would be your best friend or companion?

Pokémon are more than just our trained pocket monsters to battle for us. They are also our companions, and perhaps even our best friends. Even the TV show theme song promotes this philosophy.

One aspect of the Detective Pikachu movie that jumped out to me is how everyone in Ryme City seemed to have a Pokémon pal to call their own. And like dogs in real life, they tend to say something about the human in the relationship. So with that, I have to ask: Which Pokemon would be your best friend or companion?

Pikachu seems to be a popular pick. It is the companion of Ash Ketchum in the anime, Tim Goodman in the movie, and is essentially the Pokémon mascot. The original starters also get a lot of love, namely Charmander and Squirtle. Eevee is always a great choice for its cuteness and ability to evolve into many different forms. And depending on your reasoning, you might need a different type of Pokémon that suits your needs. Maybe you’re like our own John Friscia and want a Gengar or Electrode to terrorize people. That’s why the options are near limitless.

I know for me the choice is obvious: Meowth is the way to go, especially if we’re talking about the one that accompanies Team Rocket in the anime. A smart alecky cat-like Pokémon with a penchant for money is just the kind of buddy I want by my side. Being a cat fan helps, and I certainly am not averse to currency or the problems it brings.

  1. Mine would definitely be a Lucario, on top of being my favorite Pokèmon it would also help me “read” people since it has the ability to read and communicate with humans using its aura-based abilities, and I have a really hard time doing that due to one of my disabilities. So basically a well-trained, respectable, and just amazing service Pokèmon!

  2. Yep yep, like David says, I’m all in favor of whichever Pokémon let me inflict the most physical and psychological pain on my enemies.

  3. I’d want something that looks sweet, adorable, and innocent, but is actually a butt-kicking beast. Maybe like a Sylveon or a Primarina? I’m not sure. There’s too many choices!
