Last Friday, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl were released on Nintendo Switch. The titles are remakes of the DS entries, with a very different visual style and quality of life features. If you thought any of that would affect sales, you’d be wrong. After three days of availability in Japan, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have already achieved 1,395,642 sales.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are already sales juggernauts
According to figures, that massive sales number includes both games at retail, the Double Pack, and download cards. It does not take digital sales into account, which means these remakes are selling even more than we think.
This is the second biggest game debut in Japan, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons still being the head honcho in that regard. The remakes are just barely behind the DS originals when comparing sales numbers during a similar time period (1.586 million in four days, but again, the Switch entries likely have more if we factor in digital purchases).
Looking at these numbers, I’m 99% positive Pokémon Legends: Arceus is going to sell like hotcakes. Just call it a hunch!
