This year in Japan marks an incredible 25 years since the launch of the Pokémon franchise, so The Pokémon Company has released a “25 Years of Memories” video to begin the anniversary celebration. However, if you’re expecting a look back at all the games released in the franchise so far — think again. “25 Years of Memories” is more just an adorable set of Pokémon dioramas with assorted creatures and references to the franchise, combined with a mild Rube Goldberg machine aspect as a Poké Ball rolls around from place to place. And it all ends in an unexpected way: with a tease for a collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Katy Perry.
Little has been dilvulged about the Pokémon collaboration so far, but People revealed that Katy Perry will be “teaming up with the iconic franchise on a new music program with Universal Music Group.” Katy Perry herself provided the following comment: “I love being a part of anything that is playful and is good storytelling and has really good messages to share with the world. Now having a child myself, I understand that it’s so important to play. This is a continued extension of who I am.” She also relates to Pikachu and how, despite his cute exterior, there’s a toughness and depth to him.
What do you think of Pokémon‘s “25 Years of Memories” video, and how do you feel about Katy Perry entering the celebration?
