Pokémon GO turns four today, and to commemorate the date, Niantic has shared something new to help celebrate the mobile game we all love and get ready for Pokémon GO Fest 2020. In a blog post, the company explained how exciting it is to be able to celebrate four years of supporting this game since launch and praised the player base for sticking with the game all this time. To commemorate the occasion, Niantic tapped Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Knives Out director Rian Johnson to direct the 30-second promotional video you can watch below.
In the blog post, Johnson stated the following about the game and directing the commercial:
Pokémon GO has kept me engaged with my friends remotely as I’ve been practicing physical distancing these past few months. As a longtime Pokémon trainer, it was a real pleasure working with Niantic on this spot. It was a new experience for me to direct a production remotely, and I enjoyed the highly collaborative process and think we put together a fun and upbeat commercial that fans will enjoy.
The second gesture that Niantic made in today’s blog post was to share a new promotional art for Pokémon GO. The art is pretty spectacular and features a wide range of Pokémon. If this doesn’t get you excited about Pokémon GO Fest 2020, then I don’t know what will.
It’s currently possible to purchase tickets for the virtual festival in Pokémon GO, and Niantic urges anyone who wants to attend to do so well before the event’s dates, July 25 and 26.
