Open worlds are big, costly things, so since its announcement, players have been wondering about what the actual scope of Pokémon Legends: Arceus would be. Considering the game’s reveal trailer has a shot that clearly reflects an iconic shot from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it created an impression that this would be a big adventure. And that’s still true. But according to a statement The Pokémon Company sent Kotaku, it sounds like Pokémon Legends: Arceus will have a more restrained, Monster Hunter-like structure with a hub area and missions to accept:
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Jubilife Village will serve as the base for surveying missions. After receiving an assignment or a request and preparing for their next excursion, players will set out from the village to study one of the various open areas of the Hisui region. After they finish the survey work, players will need to return once more to prepare for their next task. We look forward to sharing more information about exploring the Hisui region soon.
Basically, it sounds like the world of Pokémon Legends: Arceus is segmented into pieces like in smash-hit Nintendo Switch title Monster Hunter Rise, and mission structure will reflect that. (Alpha and Noble Pokémon will likely factor into missions.) We already knew that the game contains action RPG elements and that the protagonist can actually be struck by Pokémon, but there are still turn-based battles as well where Pokémon can switch between Strong or Agile Styles. However, for everything we know about the game, it still feels like there’s an air of mystery to it. Stay tuned for more details over the coming months, and let us know what you think of the apparent Monster Hunter influence on Game Freak’s Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
