The collaboration was teased a few months ago, and now it’s finally happening: Pokémon x Oreo Limited Edition cookies are here. Or rather, they’re about to be, anyway. They are available to preorder from Oreo directly for $5.19, but they will arrive at retailers on September 13 while supplies last. The “while supplies last” part is unusually significant here, as Oreo says this collaboration is the company’s “first-ever cookie rarity scheme.” What does that mean? Well, there are “16 unique cookie embossments featuring Pokémon such as Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle,” but some Oreo cookies will be rarer to locate than others, just like in the video games. So in other words, you might have to buy and open a lot of boxes of Pokémon x Oreo Limited Edition cookies to collect the especially rare of the 16 types. Mew in particular only appears in an “extremely limited amount of the total cookies produced.”
The Pokémon x Oreo Limited Edition Cookies trailer teases an actual Pikachu Oreo-pixel art installation that is on display on Venice Beach Boardwalk in Los Angeles from September 7 to October 3, composed of “over 8,000 3D replicas of the Pokémon x OREO Cookies placed on an 8 H’ x 22’ W mural to create a larger-than-life, Pikachu-themed design.”
