We’ve reported before about how well Pokémon Sword and Shield have been selling. Yet, it was still up in the air as to whether or not the latest entries in the long-running Pokémon series would have legs. Thanks to recent information from the Japanese gaming publication Famitsu, we now know that Pokémon Sword and Shield has broken a significant sales record.
Pokémon wants to sell the very best
Famitsu contains a lot in its weekly publication. Reviews, news, and sales records provide detailed information to gaming audiences. Well, Sword and Shield have ranked first in sales for the past nine weeks, dominating the sales records section with no end in sight. The previous record-holder for this was Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. As such, this is the first time a game has sat at the number one spot so consistently since 2006.
Considering that Nintendo recently announced DLC expansions for Sword and Shield and that Pokémon GO turned out to be one of the highest-grossing mobile games of 2019, the Pokémon series is in the position to make the company a significant amount of money well into this decade.
How do you feel about the current sales records? Do you think that they’re well deserved? Let us know in the comments.
