powerA pokemon sword and shield controllers

Every now and then, Nintendo will put out special editions of their consoles and controllers with unique, gorgeous designs based on specific game series. Just the other day, for example, Nintendo announced a special Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch. These special releases are a bit of a rarity, though. Thankfully, there are plenty of third-party companies picking up the slack and making a huge variety of controllers and accessories for the Nintendo Switch based on every Nintendo game and character under the sun. Case in point: PowerA has just revealed a trio of new controller designs with art based on Scorbunny, Sobble, and Grookey from Pokémon Sword and Shield.

With a form factor similar to the official Nintendo Switch Pro controllers, these PowerA controllers are a touch cheaper at $49.99 and feature some attractive art based on the official starter Pokémon from the latest entry in the monster-collecting RPG franchise. Each one is adorned with an adorable render of each starter Pokémon, as well as art printed across the entire controller based on the elemental type of each starter.

While these controllers don’t feature gyroscope support or amiibo-scanning support, the PowerA controllers have a unique feature not found on any official Nintendo controllers — two extra buttons on the back of each controller handle, offering an extra button to map in your favorite games.

The PowerA controllers are available to preorder now for $49.99 via Amazon.
