Nintendo quietly released the second entry in their Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase series this morning, revealing a small handful of third-party games including Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. It didn’t feature much of note overall, but a sequel to the hit 2017 puzzle game (which we liked quite a bit) is pretty exciting news for fans of Tetris and Puyo Puyo titles. The game releases on December 8, just in time for some holiday fun for you and your family.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 revives every mode from its predecessor. That of course includes the hit Versus Mode that allows players to swap between Puyo Puyo and Tetris (if this mode intrigues you, check out the original game’s free demo on the Switch eShop), as well as a few new additions such as Skill Battle Mode. Skill Battle Mode utilizes character-based skills and item cards to change the tide of battle on a whim.
Additionally, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 expands the online suite with the addition of Spectator Mode and comes with its own single-player adventure. Many players who enjoyed the original title have reported struggles with finding matches or a steady community online in the original title, so hopefully, the sequel has better luck.
