Since his retirement earlier this year, Reggie Fils-Aime has made it into the news a few times, just by going around and being his Reggieful self. First, he decided he would stay in touch by starting a Twitter account in April. He makes a splash with a tweet here and there, and since then, he has also been unveiled as a “Leader in Residence” at Cornell, announced as a keynote speaker at SXSW 2020, and, now, it looks like he will make an appearance at The Game Awards this December, if his recent exchange with Geoff Keighley is anything to go by. Check out the tweets between the two below, where Reggie asks to attend.
You won’t need to infiltrate the theater. We will send you a calling card…. You do have perfect attendance so far!

That Persona 5 reference in Geoff’s response, a likely nod to last year’s absolutely shocking reveal of Joker as the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character I never knew I needed, really feels like a cheap shot given we STILL DON’T HAVE PERSONA 5 ON SWITCH, but I’ll let it slide. This is hardly an explicit confirmation, but it does imply that Reggie will play some role at The Game Awards this year.
Everyone loves Reggie and the Nintendo pureness he embodies, and he has always seemed to genuinely enjoy the games he promoted, so it is not at all surprising seeing him pop up everywhere even in retirement. Hopefully, this was confirmation that he will make an appearance and not just playful banter between two major industry figures. Seeing Reggie give a short speech or even just handing out an award or two would be a really fun time.
