Mario Kart is a Nintendo classic and one of the most beloved franchises of all time. With over 137 million copies sold, it’s truly an iconic series, but that audience is about to get much larger. Earlier this Summer, Nintendo held a closed beta for a mobile version of the popular racer. Nintendo indicated that the full game would launch later this Summer, but they won’t quite be able to keep that promise. Nintendo announced Mario Kart Tour’s official release date today via Twitter.

You can get your hands on Mario Kart Tour on September 25. That’s just past the “Summer” deadline, but we won’t hold it against them. There’s just one month left to wait! Nintendo will be sharing more information as the release date draws near.
A mixed bag
I got the chance to participate in the Mario Kart Tour closed beta, and it was a bit of a mixed bag for me. The game looks great and handles about as well as you can expect from a mobile Mario Kart. Initially, I had a lot of fun with it! Unfortunately, like many mobile games, it feels like it’s designed to become less fun over time, prompting you to spend money on upgrades to get things rolling again. In-game items are extremely expensive, and the item pipe is essentially a loot box system.
I gave Nintendo plenty of feedback after my time with the beta, and I’m sure many other players did as well. Let’s hope Nintendo took those reviews to heart and did their best to create a fun and polished game. We’ll find out next month!
