Switch players will have to put their dreams of Apex Legends on the hybrid console on hold for the time being. With the development studio commenting on the topic, we’ve now heard it straight from the horse’s mouth. The game is currently not in the plans for the development studio at this point in time.
Apex Legends was a surprise hit earlier this year. Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind the successful battle royale game, dropped the title on the gaming community without any pre-launch marketing buzz. The game soared in popularity. The question as to whether the character-driven battle royale experience will make it’s way to the Nintendo Switch has certainly been in the air. After all, Epic has made every effort to put Fortnite literally ever where recently.
Well, the outlook for a Switch version isn’t as certain. According to a Q&A video with Wired, Dave McCoy, Project Lead at Respawn, stated that a Switch version is simply not on the table at the moment. You can hear McCoy’s response to a query on the subject at 7 minutes and 15 seconds into the video. Here is what he had to say:
“If [a] Switch [version] was coming we would tell you, and we would blast it across the world. We are hearing all the Switch players who say they want the game. I can’t make any promises right now. We have a lot of things that we are working on. So, stay tuned for anything in the future. But we currently don’t have anything to announce.”
Sadly, we won’t be able to partake in Apex Legends in all of the Switch’s handheld glory at this time. But it’s still very early in the life of this big multiplayer game, and the development team seems focused on improving the experience and adding more layers to the game before they even consider bringing it to other platforms. Only time will tell, though.
