Respawn Entertainment has reportedly been developing a new first-person shooter (FPS) with “mobility” and “style” as major design principles, but it isn’t Titanfall 3. This comes from reporting at GamesBeat following the departure of Respawn creative director Mohammad Alavi, who was apparently working on this FPS project. Respawn has acknowledged in the past that it has a single-player adventure game in development, in addition to its continued work on Apex Legends and the development of a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but the FPS info is apparently new. Publisher EA is reportedly intending to launch the new Respawn FPS in 2024 or 2025, and the game is sounding like a AAA experience.
To date, the only Respawn Entertainment game to appear on Nintendo Switch is Apex Legends, and it’s apparently only a so-so port, which is kind of to be expected. However, cloud gaming is becoming more prominent on Switch, with a surprisingly diverse range of games, including Control, Hitman 3, The Forgotten City, A Plague Tale: Innocence (and its eventual sequel), and (soon) Dying Light 2 and Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece for Cloud. There’s nothing stopping Respawn from dropping a PlayStation 5-caliber new FPS on Switch with cloud streaming. Of course, whether it plays well would be another story.
Let us know what you think of this developer making an FPS with “mobility” and “style” that isn’t a continuation of Titanfall.
