3D Realms has announced Rise of the Triad Remastered for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via a candid yet informative video. It just about manages to pack in everything you need to know within a minute ahead of the game’s targeted early 2021 release. The game is a revamp of the original ’90s first-person shooter.

Rise of the Triad Remastered is a really cool collaboration among 3D Realms, Destructive Creations, and Apogee Software. Features included in the remaster across platforms are widescreen support and mouse-look functionality. Of course, on Nintendo Switch the controls will be mapped as they are in most FPS games, judging by the video. Rise of the Triad‘s ancient multiplayer mode is also getting a revamp when it launches next year. Hopefully we’ll see a resurgence in the game’s multiplayer scene. I can hardly wait to boot it up and realize just how terrible I am 25-26 years later.

Rise of the Triad‘s story sees a special team of operatives, known as HUNT (High-risk United Nations Task-force), head to San Nicolas Island to investigate a cult, but they are swiftly attacked. They eventually learn that the cult’s aim is to destroy Los Angeles, and the operatives have to shoot their way through the cult and stop its plans.

Stay tuned for more details on Rise of the Triad Remastered.

Started out playing Metroid 2 on the GameBoy at around 5 years-old, and now I write about games all day long. Can't play Switch and drive, I've tried. As time goes on the Switch is quickly becoming my favourite console of all time.
