With little to no warning, Risk of Rain 2 is now available on Switch. The roguelike was first announced for Switch a couple of weeks ago during the Indie World presentation. At the time, the game was slated for a “Summer 2019” launch. To be fair, there wasn’t much left of Summer at that point, but I feel like we could have nailed down a date if there was really just eleven days to go.
The Switch version of Risk of Rain 2 is priced at $29.99, while the Steam version is priced at only $19.99. Curiously, the Steam version is still listed as being early access, which is not mentioned at all on the Switch version. The description on the Switch storefront does state that free updates will be coming, though, meaning that this version is defacto early access.
Risk of Rain 2 currently has five characters, with three more coming in updates. At the moment, the game doesn’t have a final stage or final boss. Both of these are planned for release in the final update in spring 2020. The next free update, meanwhile, releases sometime in September.
If you’re looking for a game to pick up and actually beat, well, first off, you may want to pick a different genre. Secondly, you may want to wait a few more months for the full release. As it stands, Risk of Rain 2 is a long-lasting game. If you’re like me, it’ll take months of practice before you can hit even the current end.
Risk of Rain 2 is also currently available on PS4 and Xbox One. Are you grabbing the game right now? Or are you planning to wait for the full game to be ready? Let us know in the comments.
