Arc System Works has announced a December 16, 2021 release date for the Nintendo Switch version of River City Saga: Three Kingdoms in Japan. If the title doesn’t sound familiar, we previously covered it under its Japanese title, Kunio-kun no Sangokushi dayo: Zeiin Shuugou!
In addition to the Japanese release date for River City Saga: Three Kingdoms in Japan, Arc System Works revealed new information about a bonus game mode called Record of the Three Kingdoms Heroes: Chapter Red Wall.
This is a new 4-player co-op mode that plays more like the traditional Kunio-kun games that offer the familiar belt-scroll action. In this mode, players must defeat enemies that show up throughout the stage and then defeat the boss waiting at the end to clear. You can choose to turn on and off friendly fire depending on how you like to play with friends.
The bonus mode also offers a leaderboard, secret stages, and playable characters exclusive to this bonus game mode. The mode further offers CRT TV-fashion graphics, a total of 12 characters, and 10 stages. It will only be available to play with Joy-Con when it launches, but there’s a chance it will get more options in the future.
