Robotech: The Macross Saga HD Edition has suddenly appeared for purchase on the Australian Nintendo Switch eShop and is reportedly appearing in Europe as well. That would make an imminent release on the eShops in North America quite likely. Robotech: The Macross Saga originally launched for Game Boy Advance in 2002 as a sidescroller from publisher TDK Mediactive and developer Lucky Chicken Games, both of which are essentially defunct now, but this new edition is published for Nintendo Switch by GPC Games, which has existed since 2010.
Judging by Metacritic, the original game received a lukewarm reception at best, and when combined with the fact that the game left virtually no cultural footprint, Robotech: The Macross Saga HD Edition appearing on Switch makes for quite the surprise. That doesn’t mean it’s unwelcome of course; the franchise has dedicated fans who are always happy to see the brand doing something, anything. And true to its name, the visuals are doing things that definitely were not possible on Game Boy Advance, sometimes even looking — dare I say — good. That said, I sure would love to see a Robotech: Battlecry remaster, which released for GameCube in 2002 and was a deeply entertaining mech title despite being tough as nails.
Robotech: The Macross Saga HD Edition secretly dropped on the Switch eShop…..I don't believe there was any word this would be happening.
This was a VERY obscure GBA game so I'm absolutely shocked it came back. pic.twitter.com/DtGdbYOTan
