rocket league free to play epic games

Rocket League has been an incredible success story since its debut in 2015, selling over 10 million copies worldwide. Now it’s time for the popular game to evolve. Developer Psyonix announced today that the game will go free to play later this summer. Psyonix is calling this the biggest update ever, complete with revamps to major features like Tournaments and Challenges. Additionally, it will also be making its debut on the Epic Games Store at the same time.

Along with the free to play update and the release on the Epic Games Store, Rocket League is getting cross-platform progression. Coupled with cross-play, it’ll be easier than ever to play it on the platform of your choice. The game will eventually be pulled from sale on Steam, but if you already have a steam version of the game, you can continue playing on that platform.

Anyone who has played Rocket League online before the launch of free to play will be rewarded with Legacy status, which includes:

  • All¬†Rocket League-branded DLC¬†released before free to play

  • “Est. 20XX” title that displays the first year you played Rocket League

  • 200+ Common items upgraded to “Legacy” quality

  • Golden Cosmos Boost

  • Dieci-Oro Wheels

  • Huntress Player Banner

  • Faded Cosmos Boost.

If you’re worried about too much change, Psyonix wants to ease your concerns. The revamped Rocket League “will still be the same core, high-octane hybrid of sports and action you love today.” The free to play version also promises refined menus that will make the game easier to navigate. No exact release date has been revealed for this update, but you can expect it later this summer.
