Rocket League has been free to play for a few months now, opening the game up to a new audience. In the time since, developer Psyonix has delivered new updates, including a Halloween event featuring the return of Ghostbusters. Now, the second season since the free-to-play launch has been detailed, which will bring the Neon Fields arena, player anthems, and more.
Rocket League season 2 is very purple, featuring neon lights aplenty and an EDM theme. Psyonix has partnered with an electronic music label, Monstercat, and the EDM theme permeates the whole season. Music producer Kaskade has created an entire EP of tunes for the upcoming season’s soundtrack, and the theme has a direct impact on game content too.
Similarly EDM-themed Neon Fields will be playable in online playlists as well as private matches, if you prefer to duke it out with your friends behind closed doors. Additionally, player anthems are being introduced with this update, a new customization option that allows you to pick a music track to play after you score a goal.
It’s 2020, so of course any new season comes complete with a battle pass. Rocket League aptly calls it the Rocket Pass, and there will be 70 tiers of rewards in the season 2 pass, including many cosmetics and “some of the items featured in Rocket Pass will pulse and flash to the beat of the menu and Arena music!”
Rocket League season 2 goes live Dec. 9 on all platforms, including of course Nintendo Switch.
