A new video has surfaced that might leak the first footage of mobile game Rockman XZ: Time Rift from Chinese developer NebulaJoy — but there’s a very weird story surrounding it.
Let’s back up a little. Although it wasn’t actually noticed until over half a year later, NebulaJoy announced back in September 2020 that it was developing an officially licensed mobile game for Capcom called Rockman XZ: Time Rift. Additional reporting from the foremost Mega Man news site, Rockman Corner, revealed the game will be primarily a single-player 2D action RPG that is targeting a 2022-2023 release. It will also offer PvP, like NebulaJoy’s other Capcom-licensed mobile game, Devil May Cry: Pillar of Combat, but it is generally looking to be a “console-like” experience. Also, the official logo for Mega Man XZ: Time Rift borrows the “X” from the Mega Man X logo and the “Z” from the Mega Man Zero logo, so the game has been presumed to be a crossover between the two series (and not a new entry in the Mega Man ZX series).
Examining the alleged Rockman XZ: Time Rift video leak
So far, so good, but Rockman Corner broke news again today with what might be a video leak of Rockman XZ: Time Rift. And here’s where things get weird: A YouTube user currently going by the name “Got Fired” published a 19-second video on September 7 that is currently “unlisted” and has a largely illegible name, but it features X from Mega Man X battling Zero from Mega Man Zero. “Got Fired” is the account of an apparently former NebulaJoy associate who may have been, well, fired. The person had previously gained notoriety for producing extremely bizarre, error-laden, poorly animated, gameplay-exaggerating commercials for Mega Man X DiVE, a separate mobile game developed by Capcom Taiwan that NebulaJoy is now overseeing for its global release. Those commercials were actually deemed official too, due to a long series of bizarre circumstances.
So now the question is whether this former NebulaJoy associate has leaked early video footage of Rockman XZ: Time Rift or if it is just an elaborate hoax from an individual with a history of bizarre videos. Certain circumstances would suggest it’s the former, though as Rockman Corner notes, the designs of X and Zero seem to reflect recent model kits more than their classic in-game character models. In any case, the audio likely consists of placeholders at present.
If this video is a genuine leak of Rockman XZ: Time Rift, there is a good likelihood it will be pulled offline by NebulaJoy or someone else soon. Enjoy it — or download it — while you can. (We may upload some additional screenshots for you if the video is removed though.) Also, it is worth noting that this mobile game is not the Capcom game known as Rockman Taisen or Mega Man Match, which was leaked during the Capcom hack but has not been officially announced yet.
