On Thursday, Roger Craig Smith announced that he would no longer be voicing Sonic the Hedgehog. Fans took it upon themselves to shower Smith’s Twitter feed with appreciative posts celebrating his 10 years of voicing the character. The voice actor has now released a video on Twitter thanking his fans for all the support over the years.

In his response video, Smith stated, “I wanted to take a quick second to say thank you, thank you, thank you to everybody who has reached out and said such kind and wonderful things on social media. I am overwhelmed, it was profoundly unexpected, and talk about a surreal day yesterday, but thank you. I am immensely touched, immensely humbled, and immensely proud of what we’ve done in 10 years.” It is obvious from the video that Roger Craig Smith loved every second voicing a character as iconic as Sonic – the number of times he says “thank you” is evidence enough!
At the moment it is unclear who will be stepping into Sonic’s shoes. Some are idly speculating that it could possibly be Ben Schwartz, who voiced Sonic in the blockbuster film that released last year. Roger Craig Smith was a brilliant Sonic, and we can’t wait to see which role he takes on next. He has assured his fans that he has not retired from voice acting, so expect more from him in the near future.
