Gary Whitta story writer Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Star Fox film

Gary Whitta, credited along with John Knoll for “story” on the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, has seen the recent extraordinary realistic Star Fox fan art going around. It caused him to comment on Twitter that he would like to write an animated Star Fox film. And he wasn’t kidding, because in a subsequent follow-up tweet, Whitta quoted The Force Awakens by saying it, “It’s true. All of it.”

What do you think of such a marriage? X-wings and Arwings definitely have a lot in common, though I think it would be a bad idea to send Team Star Fox on a suicide mission that ends with Fox McCloud getting his whole planet exploded. Then again, I have a hunch Whitta would not be hugging the Rogue One template very tightly with a potential Star Fox film.

Arguably, Rogue One‘s greatest failing was its almost completely one-dimensional characters, though the film exchanged hands so many times that it’s almost impossible to pin the blame for problems on any one person. Fortunately, the Star Fox characters have well-established, stock character-esque personalities in the first place, like the Ninja Turtles. So I really can’t imagine it would be too difficult to make a fun Star Fox film if you just remembered to keep things fun and upbeat.

Let us know if you give a yea or nay on Gary Whitta piloting a film in this storied Nintendo franchise.
