If the rumors are to be believed, Diablo fans should prep for a physical manifestation of their beloved franchise in the form of Diablo III amiibo figures. Recently, dataminers obtained some insight into the upcoming Switch version of Diablo III – the launch date, of which, happens to coincide with BlizzCon 2018 in Anaheim, California.
According to a Reddit posting regarding the datamined information, the game “will support 3 types of Amiibo.” Those types include a default/generic amiibo, a Treasure Goblin amiibo, and a Demon amiibo. The posting provides additional insight into how these figures will interact with the game.
“The first two will spawn a portal leading to some location (controlled by server so can’t be datamined) while the demon amiibo will spawn a powerful demon on the map. To prevent abuse, there’s currently a cooldown on each type of the summon:
• 22 hours (1320 minutes for portals)
• 45 minutes for demons.
amiibos can be used in both local and online mode.”
It makes sense that the benefits of the amiibo figures would be controlled to a degree to prevent unfair use. Regardless, these details are anything but confirmed at this point. But the timing of the game’s launch correlating with BlizzCon 2018 could add a measure of credibility to this report. It’d make absolute sense to see an official announcement regarding the figures at this event. Only time will tell.
Amiibo figures have only served to bolster Nintendo fandom, not only in video game interactivity but also in collectability. And, as has been proven by past events, third-party characters are not immune to receiving amiibo treatment. One of my favorite amiibo figures happens to be Cloud Strife of Final Fantasy VII fame which was created for his inclusion in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. What are some of your favorite amiibo figures? Are there any specific figures you’d like to see from Diablo III or any other franchises? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
