Super Mario 35th anniversary Paper Mario remasters

It’s been nearly 35 years since Nintendo took the world by storm with Super Mario Bros. on the NES.  The popular platformer catapulted Nintendo to success, and these days everyone knows who Mario is. All these years later, Nintendo is reportedly preparing to remind the world why he’s a household name. According to a scoop by Video Games Chronicle, Nintendo is planning a big 35th-anniversary event that includes numerous remasters, a new Paper Mario game, and more.

Paper Mario, Remasters, and more

According to “multiple sources,” Nintendo is planning to re-release the majority of past Mario games on Switch this year. On top of that, they’ll be remastered for the new hardware. Additionally, Video Games Chronicle is backing the many reports we’ve heard of a new Paper Mario game. This is apparently one of “several” new Mario games coming out this year. Nintendo’s anniversary event is planned to reveal all of this, as well as new info on the upcoming Super Nintendo World theme parks and the animated Super Mario movie.

It’s worth noting that much of this echoes previous reports. Back on March 17, Nintendo World Report’s Emily Rogers teased that 2020 would be a “good year to be a plumber” and an “INSANE” year for remasters, remakes, and deluxe ports on Switch. As previously stated, numerous sources have backed a 2020 Paper Mario, with some stating that it will be “back to roots.”

Mario anniversary event in flux

All of this was reportedly meant to take place at E3 2020, but the global pandemic crisis has derailed that plan. Nintendo could still hold the event during that week if they so choose. After all, they started the trend of skipping out on a physical E3 press conference in favor of a digital showcase. While Nintendo can’t hold a physical celebration, there’s nothing stopping the show from going on. We’ll be on the lookout for more information about Nintendo’s new schedule.
