Rune Factory series 15th anniversary special website launched

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the Rune Factory series, and Marvelous has launched a special commemorative website to celebrate. Marvelous also shared a trailer that gives us a look back at each entry from the simulation RPG series.

Marvelous released the first Rune Factory for Nintendo DS in August 2006 as a sister series spinoff to the Harvest Moon (now Story of Seasons) farm simulation games. Producer Yoshifumi Hashimoto, who also produces the Harvest Moon series, originally wanted to create a series like a Harvest Moon that lets you wield a sword. However, instead of borrowing the Harvest Moon name, the company wanted to grow it as an independent series and has continued to do so since then. The series has seen five main entry titles, with the latest being Rune Factory 5 for Nintendo Switch and multiple side games along the way.

Like the sister series, Rune Factory allows players to grow crops and upgrade tools. What sets it apart is that instead of purchasing animals for farms, players can take on dungeons to defeat or even befriend monsters. Each title also has a theme of a protagonist suffering from amnesia and wandering into a town in which they live, to make friends and eventually grow a family.
