Pokémon: Detective Pikachu will hit theaters like a lightning bolt in a week! And Ryan Reynolds? Well, he just won’t stop selling it to us. Let’s be honest, getting Ryan Reynolds on board to help market any movie — (cough) Deapool — is an excellent sales strategy. Today, he’s showing the world how to get Pikachu-ready for the cameras. In typical Ryan Reynolds fashion, the entire thing is one big joke. But that’s what we’ve come to expect from the man, and we eat it up! Check it out below.
Ta-da! There you have it, Pikachu fans. The process is so simple that it can be described in a solid minute. As always, the actor’s cheeky humor is appreciated by many. “Put him in more commercials,” I say. I’d watch him sell me toothpaste, and then promptly run out to the store and buy it.
In case you’ve missed some of the great marketing that has gone into the upcoming Detective Pikachu film, be sure to just check out the Ryan Reynolds YouTube channel. While you’re there, do yourself a favor and check out his marketing campaign for Aviation Gin. I would say that Ryan Reynolds is an American treasure, but Canada might have something to say about that. Let’s call him a North American treasure — does that work? No? Alright. I tried.
When can you see Ryan Reynolds in all of his Pikachu glory?
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu hits theaters May 10. Though, I suspect there will be many Thursday showing offerings per standard movie-going practice these days. It follows up the juggernaut Avengers: Endgame in helping to kick off a killer start to the Summer movie season. Let’s hope that we have our first solid video game-based film with Detective Pikachu!
