Square Enix just released SaGa Frontier Remastered today, but the developer has more coming from series creator Akitoshi Kawazu, who is already working on a new project. The SaGa creator shared more in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine (via Ryokutya2089).
Kawazu said that, in January 2019, he had a list of candidates for their next new project, which included a remake for Makai Toushi SaGa (The Final Fantasy Legend). However, he added that, at the time, he felt that if they were going to go for it, then it should be SaGa Frontier.
Famitsu asked if there were any other new projects underway from said list of candidates, to which the series general director Akitoshi Kawazu replied, “I can’t say what, but please wait for more details.”
Now that we have a SaGa Frontier remaster, fans are wondering if that means we’ll get one for SaGa Frontier 2. When asked about the possibility of a SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered, Kawazu said, “I wonder when that’ll be. I think it would need a lot more work than SaGa Frontier Remastered. Remasters also need additional elements. Since SaGa Frontier 2 didn’t have that many events, if we were to add something, then it would definitely have to be more [events].”
SaGa Frontier Remastered producer Hiroyuki Miura also chimed in: “There are numerous series of SaGa that have yet to be remastered, so I’d like to give some consideration to see what we can play with.”
In any case, it sounds like Square Enix is exploring options for the next SaGa remaster, but does that mean the current project is something different? It could also end up being the Makai Toushi SaGa remaster mentioned earlier.
SaGa Frontier Remastered is immediately available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PC via Steam, iOS, and Android. Check out its nearly 8-minute launch gameplay trailer from Square Enix.
