If you have an appetite for remasters and spiritual successors, then Square Enix had an awesome performance at today’s Nintendo Direct. Nintendo Switch is receiving (1) an HD port of Legend of Mana from PlayStation 1, (2) a brand new game that combines Octopath Traveler with Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre called Project Triangle Strategy, and (3) yes, the previously revealed SaGa Frontier Remastered. But today at the Nintendo Direct, we learned that SaGa Frontier Remastered has a release date of April 15, which is earlier than the previously announced summer 2021 time table. It will retail for $24.99 on Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC. The Nintendo Direct has been cued up to the moment of the reveal below.
Yesterday, we reported on how the Square Enix development team is approaching restoring cut content originally planned to appear in the game on PlayStation 1. That includes with the new character Fuse, who was originally intended to be in the game, but resources didn’t allow for it. That’s all being rectified this time around. Plus, there is some good evidence that SaGa Frontier Remastered may be Square Enix’s first earnest effort at using AI upscaling for a vastly improved type of HD conversion.
Now that SaGa Frontier Remastered has its April release date, Legend of Mana is coming in June, and Project Triangle Strategy has a demo out right now, it is smooth sailing for Square Enix fans on Nintendo Switch.
