Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin review Nintendo Switch Edelweiss Marvelous XSEED Games sidescrolling action farming simulation

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is off to an electric start in sales, having already moved over 500,000 copies worldwide. The serene title from XSEED Games and Edelweiss mixes action, crafting, and farming, apparently in a way that equates to a recipe perfect for winning over players.

Passing the half-a-million mark so quickly makes the enjoyable title one of XSEED’s bestsellers, so the company is obviously in high spirits. Check out what Executive Vice President Kenji Hosoi had to say about the impressive early start for Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin.

We’ve known that Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin was a special game and would have broad appeal since our first meeting with Edelweiss. The game has been in development for many years, and we’re beyond excited at the reception it has received globally from critics and consumers alike. Thank you to everyone who has accompanied Sakuna and her companions on their journey!

The game seems to be quite popular on Switch, too. Prior to its release, Hosoi noted that the Switch version of the game had the PS4 version beat by about a two-to-one margin in preorders. I’m not at all surprised that Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is doing so well on Switch. Just about everything seems to sell well on the system, and I assumed that this would be no exception after reading a bit of our review, which praised the game’s excellent balance of life-sim and beat ’em up elements.
