Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin shipments reach 950,000

Marvelous shared an update on Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin shipment numbers in the company’s financial results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2021. The total is now at 950,000 units in worldwide shipments as of the end of March 2021.

According to the financial report, the solid sales performance comes from strong additional orders since its launch in November 2020. Marvelous announced in late January 2021 that Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin shipments were at 850,000 copies, which means since then it sold 100,000 copies in a two-month span.

The story follows a harvest goddess named Sakuna, who must rediscover her birthright as the daughter of a warrior god and harvest goddess. To do so, she needs to fight monsters and cultivate rice with the help of her guardian Tama and a few outcast humans. As far as gameplay goes, the best way to describe it is a cross between a rice-farming simulator and an action RPG. It features a sidescroller-style action for combat and a rather in-depth rice farming system, which actual rice farmers in Japan highly appraised.

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is available for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. You can purchase the game on the Nintendo Switch eShop for $39.99 / £34.99.
