With significant development input from the original show’s creator, Genndy Tartakovsky, and its writer, Darrick Bachman, it’s no surprise that Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time ties into the TV show pretty heavily. Still, most fans of the classic cartoon were probably not expecting the surprisingly fun title to feature a full-on alternate ending to the original show, but the game and its developers had other ideas. Before you read on, keep in mind that spoilers for the show and Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time follow, so don’t read any further if you aren’t okay with seeing those.
Fans who saw the original Samurai Jack cartoon through to the end are no doubt aware of its heartbreaking ending, where Jack and his love interest, Ashi, cannot have their wedding after Jack travels through time to kill the show’s main antagonist, Aku. Since Ashi is Aku’s daughter, she ceases to exist, leaving Jack and loyal fans of the show heartbroken. The alternate ending discovered in Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time, however, leaves things on a much happier note – Ashi manages to survive and actually has her wedding with Jack.
