The latest entry of the Sengoku Musou series is coming to Nintendo Switch with Samurai Warriors 5. We got a first look at the revamped character designs and visuals in today’s Nintendo Direct presentation.
The fifth Samurai Warriors entry will take us into the Sengoku period with a spotlight on Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi. While the visuals are different from past Samurai Warriors games, it will retain the familiar 1 vs. 1,000 gameplay with plenty of flashy moves.
The previous entry, Samurai Warriors 4, was first released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in Japan in March 2014 and worldwide in October 2014. Koei Tecmo released a revised version called Samurai Warriors 4-II in February 2015. The second expansion, Samurai Warriors 4: Empires, followed shortly after in Japan in September 2015. The latest version, Samurai Warriors 4 DX released in Japan in March 2019 for the PS4 and Switch.
In any case, Musou fans waited a long while for Samurai Warriors 5. To give you an idea, back in 2019, Koei Tecmo President and CEO Hisashi Koinuma mentioned that the game was still in the works but that it wouldn’t be announced until later in 2019 or 2020. It ended up taking another year, but
