Sega revealed in its financial results for the fiscal year ended March 2021 that the company is considering remakes, remasters, and reboots for several dormant IPs.
The plan is for Sega to carefully examine several globally recognized IPs for remasters, remakes, and reboots. The list includes active and past IPs, including dormant IPs that haven’t seen new releases in a while.
Here are examples of past IPs that Sega specifically mentioned in the financial report:
- Crazy Taxi
- Jet Set Radio
- Space Channel 5
- Panzer Dragoon
- Virtua Fighter
- Altered Beast
- House of the dead
- Streets of Rage
- Soul Hackers
Below are examples of active IPs currently under consideration:
- Phantasy Star
- Total War
- Football Manager
- Ryu ga Gotoku (Yakuza)
- Megami Tensei
Sega also provided notes for what they mean when they’re talking about remasters, remakes, and reboots:
- Remaster – Convert past titles to HD animation.
- Remake – Significant addition of new features while maintaining the gameplay of the original game.
- Reboot – Reconstruct to a new game while maintaining the look and feel of the world of the IP.
In case you missed it, Sega’s Chief Strategy Officer Shuji Utsumi recently teased talked about bringing more console games in 2022. He also mentioned the company’s aim to globally expand Atlus games on more platforms.
