Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels board game hits Kickstarter

I have a reputation among Nintendo Enthusiast staff for being the guy who hates all the popular indie games, and I can’t say it’s entirely unearned. However, I really love Shovel Knight, and I’m geeking out to see that Yacht Club Games has a board game for the series on Kickstarter. It’s called Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels, and it’s seeking $80,000 USD by July 27. At the time of this writing, it’s already raised a quarter of the required funds, so it’s off to a great start.

Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels is for one-to-four players. (Yeah, I guess you can play it solo!) Everyone plays as Shovel Knight. In addition to “shoveling out justice in spades,” you will also be collecting treasure, defeating enemies, and jumping over pits. If you die, you come back to life but need to scurry to collect your treasure before someone else grabs it.

The really cool thing about Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels is that the board changes over time. You just keep swapping out one row of tiles for a new row, which is supposed to simulate the “sidescrolling” experience. God, I love it! And last but not least, there are bosses to fight, which drop lots of treasure if you can beat them. The player with the most treasure at the end of the game is the winner.

If you’re extremely interested to see more of the board game, you can watch the hour-long gameplay video they’ve uploaded. Or you can just check out the Shovel Knight: Dungeon Duels Kickstarter page.

Honestly, I’m seriously considering backing this one. What about you? Tell us what you think of this “sidescrolling” board game!
