Skateboarding games were made famous by the likes of the famous Tony Hawk: Pro Skater series which got its start in the 90s, leading on into the 2000s. After it began to fall from grace, EA stepped in with its Skate series, which achieved a somewhat similar level of success. But as the 2010s rolled around, both series took a spill and came off the scene—still dormant to this day.
With the skating sub-genre empty these days, now’s a better time than ever for an indie studio to take up the mantle. That’s exactly what the team at Easy Day Studios is hoping to achieve with Skater XL. The game got its start on Steam Early Access and Xbox One, poising itself as the new, more realistic skating game. Now, Skater XL will be making its way to the Switch in 2020.
Announced during Nintendo’s recent Indie World presentation, we got our first look at some gameplay footage:
