Even before his reveal at Nintendo’s E3 2019 presentation, a Dragon Quest character had been heavily rumored for months on end. Other than having a sweet ensemble of alt fighters covering various Dragon Quest protaganists, however, we still knew very little about him until earlier today, when Nintendo uploaded a video with Sakurai walking us through many elements of the character. After lots of rumors and speculation, the video showed off tons of Hero’s different moves and a stage based on Yggdrasil’s Altar. Nintendo also announced that the character would go live today with the version 4.0 update.

Also coming with version 4.0 is Spectate Mode, online tournaments, and a timer for the Final Smash Meter. A “Very Easy” difficulty mode for World of Light has also been added, alongside some new improvements for editing and watching videos.

Hero should prove to be a lot of fun to play around with. According to Sakurai, he has the most abilities of any character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, including what might be the most ridiculous move in the entire game: Kamikazee. The move immediately kills Hero in exchange for dealing major damage to the opposition. Crazy and fun? Maybe. Competitively viable? Probably not, but what do I know? You can go test it out for yourself since Hero is finally available.
