Last year, PlatinumGames created a “Platinum 4” website where it intended to make four huge announcements about the future of the company and its games. The first three announcements turned out to be The Wonderful 101: Remastered, giant hero game Project G.G., and the opening of the PlatinumGames Tokyo studio. The fourth and final announcement, however, turned out to just be a really weird April Fools’ Day joke for a nonexistent shooter game with Hamster called Sol Cresta. But a year later and in another twist of fate, PlatinumGames and Hamster have announced that Sol Cresta is now an actual game in development for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. The game will be “bearing the soul of the classic docking and shooting games Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta.”
Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta were shooters from the ’80s, but PlatinumGames’ Sol Cresta looks like something that would be at home on Sega Saturn, with colorful objects exploding in all directions. Perhaps more revivals like this are in the works, since “Neo-Classic Arcade Series Vol. 1” appears with the name of the game in the trailer (or it could be itself a small joke).
However, it’s important to note that, a year later, PlatinumGames still has one more, fifth Platinum 4 announcement it hasn’t made. The company revealed there would be a fifth announcement but still has not actually made the announcement.
Update April 2, 2021: We do finally know the fifth announcement — it’s the release of World of Demons for Apple Arcade.
