The film industry is essentially frozen in carbonite right now. With the epic exception of something like Bill & Ted Face the Music, which (hallelujah) will have a limited theatrical release and also a digital release on Sept. 1, no new theatrical films are releasing anymore. However, that doesn’t stop future films from still being scheduled (or rescheduled). Along those lines, Paramount Pictures has set up the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie with a theatrical release date of April 8, 2022, per Variety.
As previously reported, Jeff Fowler is returning as director, and Pat Casey and Josh Miller are returning to write the script. Seemingly no actors have been confirmed for the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie yet, but Jim Carrey has expressed interest in reprising the role of Dr. Robotnik in a sequel. In a perfect world, everyone will return, because the first film really had no right being as good as it was.
Otherwise, the pandemic has destroyed plans for all major theatrical releases. Tenet has been delayed indefinitely, along with Mulan. All of James Cameron’s Avatar sequels have been delayed again too, but fortunately, nobody cares about those in the first place.
Hopefully, the world will be relatively back to normal and nothing will harm Paramount’s 2022 release date for the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie.
