Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie production has begun Jeff Fowler Vancouver Hawaii film

Last month, Sega and Paramount revealed the shocking title of the next Sonic movie: Sonic the Hedgehog 2. And yesterday evening, movie director Jeff Fowler announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 production has begun. This aligns perfectly with information from January that indicated that the movie would begin shooting in Vancouver on March 15 and occur through May. Previous comments from Tika Sumpter, who is reprising her role as Maddie Wachowski, also indicate the film will shoot in Hawaii at some point.

Sumpter aside, it had been unclear who was actually returning for the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie. However, Collider states casually that several cast members of the original are reprising their roles, including Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic, Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, and James Marsden as Tom Wachowski. Although, while Tails is definitely going to be in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, it is not yet certain if Tails voice actor Colleen O’Shaughnessey is reprising the role following her appearance at the end of the original movie.

Sonic the Hedgehog came to theaters in February 2020, which feels like a lifetime ago, and it recently came to streaming services. With production underway already, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will arrive on April 8, 2022. Likewise, the new 3D animated series Sonic Prime will head to Netflix in 2022. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have a new game arriving then as well, if not even sooner.
