The Sonic the Hedgehog movie arrived, and against all expectations, it succeeded in dramatic fashion, becoming the most successful video game movie of all time. The decision to redesign Sonic’s look in the film following a horrendous first trailer ended up being deeply profitable for Paramount Pictures. And to the surprise of all, no one will have to wait long to watch the film in the comfort of their home. The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is receiving an early digital release on March 31. Physical Blu-ray and DVD release will still occur later, on May 19.
It won’t be just the film releasing digitally either. Depending on the retailer, it will also include assorted extra features, including commentary from Sonic voice actor Ben Schwartz and director Jeff Fowler. There are also two features with Jim Carrey about Sonic the Hedgehog and becoming Dr. Robotnik respectively, and there is even a documentary called The Blue Blur: Origins of Sonic. Some other things like a music video will round out the package.
I wanted to see the Sonic the Hedgehog movie, but I ultimately didn’t have the chance. With such an early digital release, maybe I’ll make up for lost time. Will you be grabbing the movie digitally?
